Calverton Gearing Up for Maglev
A project for a testing ground for maglev trains with a price tag of $59 million is on cards at the Enterprise Park (EPCAL) in Calverton, New York. This proposal would use the Northrop Grumman site in Calverton (now EPCAL) for demonstration. The existing Long Island rail tracks would be used as the design of these tracks is unique and would only need placing of magnetic induction panels outside the rails. As a result the demonstration can be done without removing the existing railway line and if this succeeds both the conventional and the maglev trains can use the same rail tracks.
The primary and the most profitable use of the maglev would be for transporting freight. If maglev succeeds in getting even one fifth of the trucks on the road it can reap the total project cost in about 5 years.

This post implies that the vehicle in the pictures is in New York — but actually it is outside my window here in Georgia. Not sure what this is about. Please advise on the status of this project.
Hi Emily,
The pictures used are to represent the maglev trains in America. This is a proposed project which refers to using the current Long Island rail tracks with a few modifications for both the conventional as well as the maglev trains. Funds required for this project are yet to be approved by the government.
